Do you have neck and shoulder #muscletightness? There are multiple muscle groups in the shoulder girdle that connect with the neck. So we can’t exactly separate the two in movement. So often, we’ve to cue our clients not to start a movement with their heads. Sometimes, we had to hold their heads and let them feel their heads sitting centrally on top of their shoulders. This is especially true - if your shoulders are over active, the likelihood for you to engage your core for the movement may be lower. That decreases movement efficiency and introduces compensatory use of muscles - this is how tight muscles will always get tighter if we are not re-learning movement pattern. This is where doing private 1-on-1 session is so effective in helping you with postural correction, so you can let those overused muscles take a rest, and let your deep core muscles come alive! Managing #scoliosis for #children. Learning about the spinal imbalances and ways to correct them from young is one of the most effective ways to address the condition. This 11-year old girl always says she feels more comfortable after the #Pilates session. We want to express our appreciation and gratefulness to her parents for the trust to work with her daughter to address scoliosis and to become the stronger and fitter self. So much discipline is put into it. Weekly homework is given for home practice to reinforce the new behaviour and continue strengthening the newfound #muscles. It’s been a joy to work with both the child and the #parents to help her build consistency for postural change. How do we sit on the toilet bowl? Doesn’t it look pretty similar to a squat? #Squat is fully #functional as we embrace ageing. In this video, we are doing a squat whilst keeping a good #spinalalignment from crown of head to tailbone. I was doing this video for my clients with #upperbackpain and #lowerbackpain. The slow #articulation of the spine helps to increase the space between each #vertebra, thus encouraging #spinalmobility. You’d need to engage your core and glute #muscles coupled with deep #breathing techniques in this exercise. The #pro tip here is to go as slow as possible. Take the time to connect your body and your mind and feel the #elongation of your spine. Added a couple of #challenges to increase awareness of #foottocore stability and moving with velocity. In a home setting, you can place your #feet on the floor to execute the same #exercisemovement. Alternatively, you can place your feet on a stable chair which is placed against a wall.
